magnesium symbolMagnesium is one of the 6 essential macro-minerals that comprise 99% of the body’s mineral content, and it plays a role in countless aspects of our overall health. The significance of Magnesium can’t be overstated. It’s involved in everything from bone strength to heart health, energy production, nerve function, stress/anxiety management, and diabetes prevention.

It’s also safe to say the majority of us are Magnesium deficient, which leads to a whole host of potential problems and conditions. A lack of nutrient rich foods, certain medications, and unhealthy digestive systems that impair nutrient absorption & increase stress levels all bring our Magnesium levels down.

The significance of Magnesium is well-documented and there are a number of great supplements on the market as well. But we’re water specialists and look at Magnesium through a different and underappreciated (for now) lens.

It’s reaction with water.

In order to maximize the reaction, you must use 99.99% pure Magnesium in metal form. Powders don’t work because you need a slow-release into the water and if it’s made into a composite ingredient, it can react very poorly with the water causing clogging and poor tastes. Particularly if the water is not filtered well prior to running it through the minerals.

Chemically the reaction looks like this:
Mg + 2H2O → Mg(OH)2 + 2H → Mg(OH)2 + H2

Mg = Magnesium Metal
H2O = Water
Mg(OH)2 = Magnesium Hydroxide
H = Atomic Hydrogen (Active Hydrogen)
H2 = Molecular Hydrogen (Hydrogen Gas)

Practically, the reaction does 4 things, each providing a unique health boosting benefit to the water.
1. Increases the pH of the water
2. Dissolves into the water providing the acid-buffering alkalinity benefits
3. Creates antioxidant molecular hydrogen, also known as H2.
4. Lower the oxidation reduction potential (ORP) We’ll cover each of those benefits in more detail later, but for now, don’t miss out on the powerful effects Magnesium can provide.
